Product development is not just about remote desktop sessions. The MyDeskViewer website should also feel fast, readable and predictable, whether someone arrives from a phone, a desktop browser or a language-specific search result. During our latest cleanup, we focused on the details visitors notice only when they go wrong.

Fewer files, the same clear design

We replaced six separate Aptos WOFF2 font files with two variable-font files: one for regular styles across weights 400–800 and another for italic styles across 400–700. The full font set went from 420,460 to 254,452 bytes, a 39.5% reduction. A browser does not necessarily download every font variant on each visit, so this is a reduction in the stored set rather than a guaranteed saving for every page view.

We also moved the page’s CSS and JavaScript into the HTML response to avoid unnecessary separate requests. Fonts remain optional during initial rendering, with fallback fonts available. Stable images and versioned font assets can be cached for longer, while HTML continues to be checked for updates. Small accessibility fixes to the cookie banner and footer links were part of the same work.

What the measurements actually show

In Google PageSpeed Insights laboratory tests of the homepage, mobile and desktop each scored 100 in Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices and SEO. The tested mobile run showed a 1.0-second Largest Contentful Paint, zero Total Blocking Time and zero Cumulative Layout Shift. These are snapshots under test conditions, not a guarantee for every network or device; real-user field data is not yet available.

The improvements are shared across all 18 language versions, including German, without maintaining separate layouts or scripts. We will keep an eye on real-world behavior as traffic grows and continue refining both the website and MyDeskViewer itself.
